About Inductee

Biography

Ron McNeely was born in Macon, Georgia, but moved to Huntsville and attended Lee High where he played on the 1971 State Championship Baseball Team. He was chosen as a member of the All State Baseball Team in 1972 and signed a baseball scholarship with Memphis State. While at Memphis State, he was a two time All American and led all of Division I NCAA in hitting in 1976. After his career at Memphis State, in which he set eleven baseball records, the Oakland Athletic Organization drafted him. He stayed in the Oakland Organization for four years (1976-1980) and in 1976 led all Minor League Hitters with a .403 average. Ron was inducted into the Memphis State Hall of Fame in 1992 and gives all the credit for his success in his life to his father. Ron said, My father always made time to play catch with me. He always coached me until I was 14 but never put pressure on me to excel, but always was there to see me when I did.
