Greg Patterson is a Huntsville native. He became an All-State competitor during his years at Lee High School. He made All-City and All-Conference in both the 1966 and 1967 seasons. Athletically, he is remembered mainly for his amazing passing records. Greg culminated his high school career by being selected to QB the north team in the North-South All-Star Game in Tuscaloosa. Upon graduating from Lee he was awarded a football scholarship to Jacksonville State. He entered the coaching and teaching profession after graduating from UNA in 1972. He has coached with great success at Cullman H.S., Johnson H.S. and Huntsville H.S. His career at Huntsville High spanned 18 seasons. He is the coach with the most wins (104) in Huntsville Highs excellent football history. He coached the north squad and won the state all-star football game in 2000. Gregs coaching success was not confined to football only. He coached baseball, softball, and golf, all with winning records. He was awarded city coach of the year honors four (4) times for football, two (2) times for golf and two (2) times for softball. He also served as President of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association for 1998 and 1999. Gregs coaching record shows 104 wins in football, 195 wins in softball and 101 wins in baseball. Greg attributes his success to the support his family has provided and his association with the coaches he served with and his staff at Huntsville. He considers the coaching staff at Huntsville to be one of the best in Huntsville for a long time. Greg has two children, Bryan Patterson and Laura Patterson.
