The inscription on the Phllllp M. Pickett Most Valuable Player Award at Bryan Station High School where he taught for 25 years best describes his life, He was a tough competitor who always played to win, but he could accept a loss with dignity and grace. He knew what it meant to play with pain, and he wanted his players to understand that winning takes hard work, dedication and sacrifice. Those who knew him remember him with a smile on his face. His sense of humor affected those around him. He used it to keep things in perspective, for he always took time to find some joy in every day of life he was given.
