Dave Sington is a Jefferson County native, and graduate of Shades Valley High School where he excelled in sports. Davids father, Fred Sington, one of the State greatest citizens and athletes, was the guiding influence in Davids athletic career. David was outstanding in both football and track throughout his career. In 1954 and 1955 he was the Alabama State champion in the shot put and held the State record for two years and in 1955 was the Georgia-Alabama shot put champion and record holder. David lettered in track at the University of Alabama in 1957-58. Daves greatest fame came in the sport of football. He was a great lineman at Shades Valley and Alabama. In 1954 he was All-Southern, All State, and All-American and was awarded a grant-in-aid to the University of Alabama at the conclusion of his high school career. In 1958 he was selected on the All-SEC Academic team, 2nd team All-SEC and Football Digest All-American Team. He had the honor of being the Captain of Coach Bryants first team at Alabama. In 2000 he received the Bill Wade Award from the All American football foundation. David has been a successful businessman in Huntsville since his arrival in our city in the early '60s. He was influential in the sporting goods business not only in the city and state and held national leadership positions as well.
