Thomas T. Boyd was born and raised in Madison County, became a star in three sports at Huntsvilles Lee High School, and later went on to play football at the University of Alabama and then in the National Football League. In high school, he was captain of the football team and was all-State and prep All-American as a senior. He also lettered in track and soccer. Boyd, a tall and mobile linebacker, became one of the leading tacklers in Alabama football history. He was a four-year letterman at Alabama from 1978-8 1 and a starter for the last three years. During Boyds college career, Alabama went 42-5-1 and won back-to-back national championships in 1978 (with an 11-0 record) and 1979 (12-0). His total of 120 tackles in 1980 is second highest of all time at Alabama, exceeded only by Woodrow Lowes 134 in 1973. Boyd was once named the Chevrolet Player of the Game. A two-time All-American, he was named to the Birmingham Post-Heralds All-80s Team of the Decade at Alabama. Boyd played linebacker for the Detroit Lions in 1987, and later played for a time with the Green Bay Packers. He now lives and works in Huntsville.
