Biography

Bobby Tucker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Tucker of New Market, led the Blue Raiders in scoring for three years. He was all County and All District for three straight years. For two seasons, he was named most valuable player in the Madison County tournament. He also took this honor in the 1953 Eighth District tournament. During junior high, Bobby was coached by Troy Dendy and in senior high school his coach was Sherman Stewart. Bobby was a starter on the freshman team at Auburn University and was coached by Bill Lynn. While on the varsity team, Bobby lettered his sophomore, junior and senior years being coached by Joel Eaves. Bobby was honored as an All-SEC selection in 1958. A six foot one inch, one-hundred sixty pounder, Tucker was a valuable man. He used a hook shot effectively and was an outstanding man on defense. His team play kept the Raiders a contender throughout the Eighth District meet at Arab that year. He could hit the bucket with both hands. Bobby was: 1948-1949 - 7th grade - All County 1949-1950 - 8th grade - All County 1950-1951 - 9th grade 1951-1952 - 10th grade - All County and All District 1952-1953 - 11th grade - All County and All District 1953-1954 - 12th grade - All County and All District His senior year he was a member of the North Alabama All Star team and played in the all star game in Tuscaloosa. While at Auburn, Bobby played with some of Coach Joel Eaves finest players including Rex Frederick, Jimmy Lee, Bill McGriff and Ty Samples. Bobby ranked in the top three scorers on the Tigers team along with Rex Frederick and Jimmy lee. Bobby helped his team in his senior year with back to back 23 point games vs. LSU and Tulane. He refereed high school and SEC basketball for approximately six years. Bobby also played high school baseball and after graduation and while out of school, pitched for several independent teams within the Huntsville area. Several colleges wanted Bobby, but he said he wanted to play for Auburn. After graduation, his first coaching job was at Moore Academy in Pineapple, Alabama. This school had never been to the State Tournament prior to this year and he carried the team to the State Tournament. Bobby left Moore Academy and coached and was Assistant Principal at Tallassee High School in Tallassee, Alabama for approximately six years. His first year at Tallassee, both the A and B teams won the Elmore County Championship and during this time frame his team also went two times to the Alabama State Tournament. He left Tallassee and went to Fort Walton Beach, Florida as the Athletic Director of that county and later for approximately twelve years and at the time of his death was Principal at Ocean City Elementary School in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
