His coaching at Gurley for seven years produced some outstanding football and basketball teams..In the 7 football games that he played Scottsboro from 1942 to 1949 his Gurley team won 3lost 3 and tied oneHis basketball team won 138 games and lost 55 and won four county championships out of the same 7 yearshis most exciting game? He was coaching Gaston in 1933 with a total of 13 boys out for footballthey beat Sansom 15 to 13 and Sansom had a total of 44 boys on their squad! He served as president of the district athletic board for eight years and was a member of this board for 16 years.also served on the state board for five years.
