Foster Christy was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and moved to Huntsville two months later. He played YMCA football, basketball and baseball as a young boy and was coached by his father in his early years. After attending Whitesburg elementary and junior high schools, where he participated in sports, he enrolled in Grissom High School as a freshman in 1972. Foster quarterbacked the freshman team to a perfect season: undefeated, untied and unscored on. He went on to letter in four sports his freshman year: football, basketball, track and baseball. While at Grissom, Foster was elected to the All-City track team and All-Region basketball team. During his senior year, he was selected as one of the top 100 All-American football players in the United States, Cum-laude top 100, and he was Huntsvilles most valuable football player. He was named in the Birmingham Post Heralds top ten list as the second most highly recruited football player in Alabama. Foster was honored not only as a member of the North Alabama All-Star football team but was also selected captain. While being recruited by all SEC schools, upon graduation, Foster chose to sign with Auburn University for a full scholarship to continue his football career. While at Auburn, he started and lettered all four years. Other highlights during his years at Auburn include scoring the only touchdown against Alabama in the Auburn vs. Alabama game in 1976. He also earned the starting fullback role as a sophomore against a future All-Pro running back and was voted Most Valuable Blocking Back as sophomore during spring practice. When asked about the person that has had the greatest impact on his athletic career, Foster responded by saying, I believe my father has had the greatest impact on my life in sports. Early on he helped me understand that I had athletic ability but with that ability I needed to work hard. He never pushed me but was always willing to hit fly balls and take an occasional bad pitch in the shin. He sacrificed so that I could excel. He invested his life as a coach not only in me but also in many others. Foster currently serves as an itinerant evangelist with Kingdom Building Ministries and travels throughout North America and overseas.
