Reggie Ware was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and moved to Huntsville in 1977. He attended Butler High School and excelled in both track and football. He played football at Butler under Mike Gerry and in his junior year rushed for over 1,000 yards. This led him to be selected to the All-City Football team in 1982, which was to be the first of very many honors that were to follow. In the winter of 1982 at the state indoor track meet, he won the state championship in the Shot Put and later that year won third place in the nation at the AAU-USA National Track and Field meet at the University of Notre Dame. He would also win the state indoor track meet Shot Put title the next year when he was a senior. In 1983, Reggie once again rushed for over a 1000 yards and became the first Butler back to ever rush for 1000 yards in back-to-back seasons. He was named to the All-City Team again and was named by The Birmingham News to the All-State Team. He was also named by Parade Magazine to the All-American High School Football Team. The Birmingham Post-Herald named Reggie to their 10 Most Wanted College Prospect List, as he was listed as the number two recruit in the State of Alabama. He was also named to the Adidas All-American Team and received Honorable Mention All-American from USA Today and from the National High School Athletic Coaches Association. After High School Reggie signed a Football Scholarship with Pat Dye to play at Auburn. While at Auburn, Reggie became known as the "Short Yardage Specialist". His twenty-three touchdowns still rank #8 as Auburn's All-Time Career Leader for Rushing Touchdowns. While Reggie was at Auburn, the team won 36 games, lost 11, and tied two. In 1987, with Reggie starting every game at fullback, Auburn won the Southeastern Conference Football Championship. Reggie had the distinction of playing in the Liberty, Cotton, Citrus and Sugar Bowls. He won four letters in Football and two letters in Track. His Shot Put distance of 56 feet 8 and one half inch still ranks #7 in Auburn's Indoor Track and Field History. Reggie is married to Anne Adair and they have two children, Ashley and RJ.
