Dennis Crutcher was born in Madison County in 1958 and received his education in the Madison County School System. He was graduated from Sparkman High School in 1977. The 1977 basketball season at Sparkman High School is still remembered as one of the best in Madison County history and it starred a 5-8 guard by the name of Dennis Crutcher. The team finished with a 28-3 record and a second place finish in the State Basketball Tournament. Dennis won every individual honor that could be bestowed on an individual during that season. Dennis Crutcher was named the MVP of the County Tournament and was also named MVP of the District Tournament. Dennis was just getting warmed up as he made All State and was named MVP of the State Tournament. He was named to the North-South All-Star Game and as you might suspect, he was named the Most Valuable Player. At the basketball banquet at the end of the season, Dennis capped of one of the best basketball careers in the history of Madison County by being awarded by his coach, Stanley Stafford, the MVP award for his team. Dennis signed a basketball scholarship to Montevallo upon graduation from Sparkman. In 1980-81, Dennis was honored with being chosen as team captain for the Montevallo Falcons and in 1982 he had one game where he had a record 10 steals in a single game. When Dennis was graduated from Montevallo University in 1982, he moved back to Madison County and went to work with the Kohler Company and is still with them today. Dennis is also an assistant minister with the North West Church of Christ. Dennis says, The supreme glory and honor goes, of course, to Jesus Christ my Savior. I also give my family a great amount of credit, for their support and attendance at games, but if I had to pick a single person who has impacted my career, it will be Stanley Stafford. He was my high school coach and he pushed me, encouraged me and complimented me on my accomplishments. He will always be Coach Stafford to me. Stanley Stafford recalls, Dennis was the most exciting player to ever play in Madison County. People still talk about his great moves and acrobatic skill with a basketball. Dennis and Melvin Allen were the two best guards to ever play for me and since Melvin Allen has already been inducted, I think it is only fitting that Dennis Crutcher be enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Dennis and his wife, Alice, have three children - Chaka, Cenisha, Jamia and one grandchild, Alaijah.
