Owens Cross Road native who played with such stars as Bart Starr, Dave Sington, Tommy Lewis, Buster Hill, Bill Lumpkins, Carrel Danieland Captain Nick Germanos, his room-mate! But the greatest football player that he ever played with was Bobby Luna, in his estimationin the year 1955 Boots had the distinction of being elected Lineman of the week after the Vanderbilt Gamethat same year Grantland Rice selected his Alabama team as being number one in the nation. After Alabama, he signed with the pro Philadelphia Eagles but was drafted in the army before he had a chance to play with the teamafter two years in the army, he signed with the V.C. Lions in Canada for $8,000 plus a 1,000 bonus. Now runs a successful restaurant in Huntsville, Al. His greatest football thrill came at age 15 when at his Dad's old country store he was introduced to coach 'Buck' Hughes of H'ville High School!
