A native of Brighton, Alabama, he played high school football at Brighton High from 1962-65. Became one of the all-time top football players at Alabama A&M, where he played for Coach Louis Crews. Alabama A&Ms starting quarterback as a sophomore, junior and senior. Named to the 1966 AllSouthern Iintercollegiate Athletic Conference team by the Atlanta Daily World...two-time MVP in the SIAC...MVP in the Orange Blossom Classic In 1966, when Alabama A&M played Florida A&M. When drafted by the New England Patriots, he became the first black quarterback in the National Football League. Returned to Huntsville in 1970 to coach at Calvary Hills. Later an assistant coach at Lee High for 12 years...now teaches government at Lee.
