One of the most prominent amateur golfers in Alabama and in the South for more than 40 years...won the United States Golf Association Junior Championship In 1948...won the Alabama Open three times and was runnerup several other times...winner of Huntsville County Club mens championship many times...a director in the Southern Golf Association from 1958-88, and president of that organization three times...on the USGA Grains Section Committee from 1960-89...has competed in 24 Southerns, seven North-South tournaments, three Porter Cups, five Southeastern...has finished high in the Mid-Atlantic and Western amateurs...qualified 12 times for the U.S. Amateur, and played in seven between 1948 and 1974...third low in the 1986 Senior Open and a semifinalist in the U.S. Senior Amateur in 1989.
