Bo is a native of Huntsville. He spent his youth in the Madison County area and graduated from Butler High in 1969. His football career at Butler is one that legends are made of. One of the favorite stories told is about Bos first game in high school when Coach John Meadows unleashed this unknown sensation on the Cuilman Bearcats. He ran roughshod over the unsuspecting Cullman eleven and spread fear in the hearts of Butlers future opponents. His debut at Cullman was no fluke. Bo went on to become the most dangerous runner in high school football in Alabama during his playing career. In his last year at Butler he was selected to the All-State team. Bo was awarded a football scholarship after graduation to the University of Colorado, a member of the then Big Eight Conference. As a member of the Buffalos, he made the All-Big Eight team in both 1972 and 1973. Upon completion of his collegiate eligibility in 1974, he was selected #2 in the first round draft of the NFL by the San Diego Chargers. Bo was known as a ferocious blocker and short yardage specialist during his NFL career. His Pro career included time with San Diego, New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, and with the Denver Gold of the USFL. Bo says, My high school coach, John Meadows, had the greatest impact on my athletic career. John was a friend to me. He taught me the importance of discipline and hard work. He knew I didnt have much, but instead of feeling sorry for me he would help me get jobs. And most importantly, he never lied to me. Bo Matthews now lives in the Denver area where he is the founding owner of AA American Moving and Storage, which has been listed as one of the top minority companies in Denver. His business has been successfully operating for 15 years. Bo and his wife, Barbara, have four children: Adam, Asa, Caleb and Brandi.
